October Progress Meeting

I just had the opportunity to be part of the latest progress meetings which was a really interesting and insightful opportunity. It took place on-site, in the on-site offices with the architects, structural engineer, project manager, quantity surveyor, site managers all in attendance.

As it all stands we are in construction to mention the obvious. Though there’s been a bit of a hitch, an unexpected chimney related issue is holding things up. The progress meeting involved all department heads reporting back on progress in their respective departments getting up to date and also asking questions or putting forward concerns. All in all the meeting went quite well, I felt very welcome and understood what was going on quite well. The main point of discussion and concern are the potential chimney related delays, it is being dealt with and so hopefully in a month we’ll know where we stand!

Creative Islington event

Today we had the Creative Islington event where a number of creative companies borough wide specialising in the various arts disciplines ranging from London Symphony Orchestra to National Youth Theatre, were invited. The events purpose was to inform the rest of the borough’s creative community what our new centre for young people is all about.

Part of the event, which we the young advisors led was quite practical and crafty. It involved creating a physical representation of Islington and where the various companies attending were geographically located, what they do and what they’re planning on doing next summer in time for our Grand Launch!!!

…space might look a little something like this…

I came across this project browsing the latest in design as I usually do and it occured to me that this show room resemble what we had in mind during the design phase. So the main ground floor performing space might look a little something like this. In regard to the white wash with light flooding in, colour popping out from it, raw exposed surface finishes. So pretty much like this minus the bar, benches and centre piece installation, put in a raked retractable set of chairs, an there you have it!

I just came out from the monthly board meeting and I have some really exciting news!

An Official Name has been settled upon!

…the centre Officially has a name!

and the name is…

drum roll please……to be posted very soon once permission is cleared to announce it…

Adrian, I’m one of the young advisors on-board this wonderful project. I’ve now got the opportunity to share some of the exciting stuff we have been and are doing. Right now, all the architectural plans/drawings have been finalise and are now in the thick of the construction phase. More info on this as we go on in time to come. At the same time we are trying to finalise the ever elusive official name of the centre after a journey that’s taken over a year. We are now close though… really close…

We are also planning the grand opening and everything that proceeds and surrounds it, exciting stuff !!!

During the project, the All Change young advisors wrote a collaborative poem from the voice of the soon to be refurbished Hornsey Road Baths. Lines from the poem were used to puncutate the performance that presented the consultation findings.

I am the creation of all your imagination
I am not like anything you have ever seen before
I am over the top, the boldest tone in the boldest colour of the boldest building in London
I am the funky animal trying to escape from the big black speakers
I am the youthful runner about to win the race of life
I am welcoming – like your grandmother’s house
